SHOALS — Authorities in Martin County are still trying to sort out the details of an apparent family fight that left a Shoals man dead and his father in jail.
Indiana State Police report John Bruce Tow, 60, of Shoals and his son, Jonathan Tow, 32, had spent Sunday arguing. Then around 9:55 p.m. John Bruce Tow called 911 in Martin County telling the dispatcher his son was bleeding to death.
Police say when they arrived at the family mobile home at 714 Doane Lane in Shoals they found Jonathan Tow lying outside of the doorway to the trailer with a knife wound to the neck. EMS and first responders attempted to save the younger Tow, but he did not survive.
John Bruce Tow was taken to the Martin County Jail where he was being held on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
Police and the prosecuting attorney for Martin County say they are still investigating the event. "We are waiting to review the autopsy results," said Martin County Prosecutor Mike Steiner. "The investigation is ongoing and the officers are doing some additional interviews."
Authorities say they are still trying to sort out the details. "The victim and his father were the only ones there at the time," said Steiner. "We are getting at least one side of the events. We're just trying to sort it out and make some sense of it."
Right now authorities don't know if any additional charges will be filed in connection with the death. "We are going to meet with the investigators and discuss that," said Steiner. "The criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon is a preliminary charge. We could file more depending on what the investigators find."
