Radio personality dies in motorcycle crash

Brad Deetz, 46, died on Wednesday

WASHINGTON — A traffic accident Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of DLC Media General Manager Brad Deetz. The Daviess County Sheriff's Office reports Deetz, 46, of Vincennes was driving a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle on Old US 50-East when the bike collided with a truck pulling a trailer at the intersection of CR 150-W. Deputies report the driver of the truck Ernest Colbert told them he had stopped at the stop sign and looked and did not see the on-coming motorcycle. When the Colbert truck pulled into the road Deetz struck the passenger side front wheel of the pickup. He was then thrown from the motorcycle into the ditch.

Deetz was taken to Daviess Community Hospital and then flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he later died.

"I'm shocked," said DLC Media owner Dave Crooks. "He was a super G.M. and a close friend. We're grieving at this point. It's a very difficult time."

Crooks says Deetz was the first person he hired when he got into radio management in 1993 as the morning man for WWBL in Washington. When DLC Media was formed he hired Deetz a second time. Recently he had been doing double duty as the morning radio host on WFML. "We were getting ready to let him go off the air," said Crooks. "We have a lot of projects in the works and he was going to spend his time concentrating on them. "We have a big void in our company right now."

Deetz was also active in his community. He was a reserve deputy for the Knox County Sheriff's Department. He and his wife Kristi were serving as co-presidents for the Vincennes Lincoln High School Band Boosters. "He had two children, one in high school and the other in junior high, and he was really active in their lives. Just a great dad to them," said Crooks. "This is just a tragic, tragic event."
