A Viking team to remember

The Washington Times-Herald

---- — All roads lead to where you stand. And today, the Barr-Reeve basketball team will find themselves at center court of the Class A State Finals.

Whether they win or lose is now irrelevant, as their legacy has already been written. This team will be remembered as one of the classiest, hardest working and most mature teams to come out of Southwestern Indiana. Going into this game, they were undefeated against Indiana teams and did so without bragging, boisterousness or bellicose behavior.

If ever a community had a right to be proud of a group of young men, this would be it.

They are a direct reflection of the men who have coached them. You might say this group have not been coached to prepare for battle, they have been coached to prepare for life.

Although all of the Barr-Reeve community is fully behind this team, ultimately it is the team’s journey alone.

They will remember the bus rides, the team meals, the locker rooms and the time they spent talking about everything other than basketball.

Although a big part of the roster will return next season, THIS team has just one game left, one more pre-game speech and one more halftime.

When they are standing in the middle of Bankers Life Fieldhouse, this group of players and coaches have already accomplished everything they ever need to - they are a team who has taken every step together - and that is what they will remember the most.
