Washington Times Herald

WASHINGTON — We, at the Washington Times Herald, would like to thank Barry Baumert for his 50 years of service to the newspaper and in turn, to the community.

He predated the merger of the Times and Daily Herald and has been a major part of  every newspaper printed since 1962.

As a member of the composing staff, a hybrid position that involves both editorial and advertising, he has put his personal stamp  on every issue, without ever getting a byline or public recognition.

Each day Barry help the process starting with blank pages and by the time he was finished with it, the framework for the next day’s paper was built.

He is the very last of a group simply known as “newspapermen.” They understood all the individual components in putting out the “daily miracle” known as the newspaper.

He has shown a loyalty and dedication is virtually unheard of in today’s society. Others may retire with 50 years of service to one company, however, they will be fewer and farther between.

Baumert retired today and we wish he and his family well in all future endeavors. You will be missed by all.

Since this will be your final newspaper, we dedicated the paper to you with a byline:
