Daviess Community Hospital is big part of United Way

“United Way’s annual campaign happens because a group of caring, committed people work together in many ways to raise money to support local agencies and causes,” said Angie Steiner, Director of Business Development/Physician Recruitment at Daviess Community Hospital.

A group of 26 volunteers called the Campaign Cabinet led by campaign chair Grant Swartzentruber volunteer their time to organize the campaign and inform the community.

In 2013, the total pledge to the United Way for DCH was an outstanding $41,081.45. Last year their contribution with a corporate match was $28,000. How does this happen? An outstanding team of hospital employees added fun and team building to the pledge drive with the goal of greater participation. A visit by the United Way team fostered a greater understanding of the work this drive supports.

Events built not only awareness and energy but also some heat. The chili cook-off raised $253 while the Pie to the Kisser brought in $640.38 and the silent auction yielded $4,751.52.

“Everyone enjoyed the fun events to make the campaign even more successful and the donors for the auction truly make it a community event,” said Steiner.

Over 89 percent of all hospital employees turned in their pledge card while 69 percent of all employees pledged a minimum of $1, an example of how small gifts given many times over make great things happen.

“We truly appreciate all who pledged and we thank the team leaders who made this possible,” said Brenda Sobecki, of the United Way.”Daviess Community Hospital is a United Way partner that cares and takes care of the people in Daviess County. This contribution gives us confidence that when all the pledges are in, we will reach our goal of $225,000.”

The money from the campaign will be used to help children and youth succeed, strengthen and support families, meet immediate crisis needs, support vulnerable and aging populations, and community outreach.

“There is no doubt that Daviess County is stronger when we work together for the common good and we salute Daviess Community Hospital as a leader in this endeavor,” said Sobecki.
