Humane Society fundraiser

The Martin County Humane Society has a year of new and somewhat interesting fundraisers lined up. The current fundraiser “Flush Your Friends” has a gaudy, hot pink toilet being passed around to yards in the county. It has already been found in several yards in Loogootee and is still on the move. Have someone you want to surprise with the flusher? The cost to place it in a yard is $10. Call Tina Wilson at 296-0035. If you happen to find the flusher in your yard, it will be $10 to have it removed or $15 to have it removed and have it transported to the yard of your choice. $20 gets it removed, placed in a friend’s yard, and the guarantee you won’t get it back. You can also purchase “flush insurance” ahead of time to assure you don’t ever get it. Insurance can be paid by calling Tina or paid via PayPal to mchs@frontier.com.

The “Flush Your Friends” fundraiser will continue through February and all proceeds go to support the animal shelter.

Upcoming fundraisers include a scavenger hunt on March 22 and the annual auction on April 12.

If you would like to volunteer to help the Martin County Humane Society, contact the shelter at 295-5900 or email mchs@frontier.com. The shelter is located at 507 N. Oak Street in Loogootee. Winter hours are Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shelter currently has close to 50 dogs and cats awaiting adoption. Adoption fee for dogs is $60 and for cats $30.
