Ways to Help Others

The Furniture Connection

The Furniture Connection, a program of CONNECTIONS, is collecting used furniture and working appliances to be given to families in need. We are currently in need of beds, we are receiving numerous calls for beds. Please call CONNECTIONS at 257-2650 to donate your used furniture and working appliances, all donations are tax deductible. CONNECTIONS is a free information and referral service assisting those in need of finding valuable resources within Daviess County.

POWER HOUSE

A non-profit teen center at 709 E. Main St., Washington, serves teens in grades 7-12 who come in hungry for food and friendship. Often, meeting physical needs first opens doors to focus on any other need the teens may have. We are looking for volunteers to provide an after school meal for approximately 40 kids once a month. We also have several projects that need a handyman, if you are good at fixing things, please consider volunteering at the Power House. For information, call 254-7693.

Adult Literacy

The new Adult Literacy Program through the Washington Public Library is needing volunteers to help adults learn to read or improve their reading skills. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age if still in school or adults older than 16 must have a high school diploma or GED and should be able to commit to two hours a week. Please call Teresa at the library at 254-4586.
