Reed hosts March Beginnings in September

---- — The March Beginnings met Sept. 11 at Vickie Reed’s home with Sandy York as hostess. York led the club in the pledge to the flag and the homemaker’s creed. Roll call was answered and the song of the month was sung. Karen Barnard read the minutes of the last meeting and York gave the treasurer’s report.

Shirley Henson, York and Barnard attended the district meeting on Aug. 20. A total of $650 was raised for the Purdue Cancer Research by bidding on silent auction items. They also attended the Homemakers Making a Difference Conference on Sept. 10. It was mentioned at the Council meeting that the Homemakers made $270 at the fundraiser during the 4-H show.

One of the windows at the Community Foundation will be decorated for the month of October. October is Homemaker’s Month and this is the 100th anniversary year for Indiana Extension Homemakers. The group will be going to West Baden on Oct. 10 for Homemaker’s Month. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Jubilee Christmas is asking for $5 or less stocking stuffers and they are to be taken to the Extension office by Dec. 3.

Henson read This Week in History from Aug. 14 through Sept. 10. A few dates mentioned were Aug. 19, 1909, First Race at the Indy 500; Aug. 21, 1959, Hawaii becomes a state; and Aug. 22, 1929, Women’s Right to Vote.

Henson won the hostess gift and Henson and Barnard received gifts from their secret pals. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m .Oct. 9 at Reed’s home, with Barnard as hostess.

The club will be making fall table decorations for Hillside Manor. The meeting was dismissed with the prayer song.
