A man born in Washington has been promoted to colonel in the United States Air Force and has assumed a command position at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. Col. Donald R. Grannan has taken command of the 88th Communications Group leading 500 cyber operations airmen maintaining the Air Force’s largest communications network. They provide computer, telephone and radio services for one of the Air Forces’s largest and most diverse bases supporting the 88th Air Base Wing and 11 major tenant units including HQ Air Force Materiel Command, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, National Air and Space Intelligence Center, Air Force Research Labs and 445th Airlift Wing.
Col. Grannan was born in Washington. His father is retired Air Force Master Sgt. Donald W. Grannan, who graduated from Washington Catholic High School in 1949. His mother was the late Mary Clark Grannan.
Prior to his current assignment Col. Grannan commanded the 379th Expeditionary Communications Squadron at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
His deployments include Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and aboard ship. His awards and decorations include a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, and a Joint Serivce Commendation Medal.
