---- — Entries are now being accepted for the 2013 Daviess County Christmas parade. The theme this year is "The Magical Sounds of Christmas." The parade will be Dec. 7 starting at 3 p.m. win lineup near Washington High School at 2 p.m. This is the largest parade in Daviess County each year.
The parade is historically held on Sunday but was moved up a day to Saturday this year in order to avoid a conflict with the presentation of "The Nutcracker" which is being performed at Washington High School.
The Daviess County Chamber of Commerce and the city of Washington are handling arrangements for the parade. The new holiday banners along with lighted wreaths, bows and Christmas trees will be in the downtown area.
Area bands, choirs and special guests will be providing festive music during the parade. Washington Mayor Joe Wellman says the city train will be operational with additional guests riding on it. Santa Claus will also make his traditional appearance on the fire truck at the end of the parade. Santa will be at the Meredith Plaza Gazebo in downtown Washington after the parade to meet with children and passing out candy canes to those in attendance.
Groups or individuals wishing to enter a unit in the 2013 Daviess County Christmas parade should contact the mayor's office at 254-5575.
