---- — Portion of CR 800N to close

The Daviess County Highway Department announced a portion of CR 800N between CR 900E and 1100E will be closed starting Monday for road repairs. The road is scheduled to reopen on Oct. 15.

NJROTC garage sale on Saturday

The Washington High School NJROTC will hold a garage sale fund raiser from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the WHJS gym, 210 N.E. Sixth St. Early birds before 8 a.m. will be charged triple the price.

Band boosters to meet Monday

Washington High School band boosters will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school band room. All parents are encouraged to attend.

Veteran peer group to meet

A veteran peer support group will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Harvest Community Fellowship, 200 W. Main St. Veterans will be given guidance or learn to become a peer facilitator to help guide others. The group will meet each Thursday. For more information, call 582-4979.

Farm safety course Oct. 10

There will be a first aid and farm safety course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at Simon J. Graber Complex for Amish or Mennonite families, age 18 through adult. The time is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., bring your own sack lunch. There is no cost and the course is offered through the Daviess County Health department and includes a helicopter safety demonstration from Air Evac. Must preregister by calling 254-8666.

Fall Feiesta on Oct. 12

The first annual Lena Dunn Elementary “Fall Fiesta” will be held from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at Lena Dunn Elementary School. Carnival food and game wrist bands will be available for purchase that evening. Meal tickets may be purchase at Hibbett Sports and the End Zone for $3 each.

DCHS to caravan to Indiana Experience

The Daviess County Historical Society fall program will be a caravan to the Indiana Experience at the Glick History Center in Indianapolis on October 19. We will meet at the museum at 8:30 a.m. and plan to leave at 9 a.m. If you are willing and able to take passengers, please let us know ASAP at 444-9360 or There will be compensation for chauffeurs from our quarterly sponsor fund. Passenger tickets will be $10.

This event will be part of the Local History Partner Days promotion at the Indiana Historical Society, where members of local member societies can receive free admission to the Indiana Experience for a two-week period. DCHS members can receive the free admission anytime between October 15 to the 26. Show the mailing label on your newsletter as proof of membership.

The Eugene and Marilyn Glick History Center is located at 450 West Ohio Street in Indianapolis.

Non- members are welcome to come but will have to pay the standard admission fee for the Indiana Experience.

The Indiana Experience includes attractions such as You Are There, in which historic photographs come to life in three dimensions complete with live characters. Currently playing at You Are There are “1913: A City Under Water” and “1939: Healing Bodies, Changing Minds.” Also featured is Destination Indiana, an interactive travelogue of Indiana’s past with stories from all 92 counties, as well as the History Lab, a behind-the-scenes look at historic restoration and preservation.
