New officer selected for Garden Club

---- — The October meeting of the Arts and Flowers Garden Club was held recently at the Washington Carnegie Library. President Linda Myers called the meeting to order and introduced special guest, District Director Sue Furman. She then led the group in the pledge of allegiance. She thanked the hostesses Vicki Bubalo, Jodi Parsons, Pat Thompson and Dorothy Pegler. Secretary Bonnie Miles called the roll and read the minutes. Treasurer Janet Goodwin gave the report.

Linda Cornelius and Shelia O’Malley reported that they attended the dedication of a Blue Star marker at the Lincoln State Park. They plan to do research and hopefully the club will provided a marker at the Hill of Heroes at Eastside Park.

Pat Thompson and Sue Colbert of the nominating committee presented the slate of new officers. They are President Linda Cornelius, Vice President Shelia O’Malley, Secretary Barb Fyffe and Treasurer Julie Lancaster.

The program “Christmas At Your Doorstep” was presented by Laura Buchanan and Susie Schmitt. Buchanan created a huge wreath by starting out making a swag with a base of white pine and cedar. She then added Christmas tree bulbs and finished with jute and plaid ribbon.

Other members attending were Joan Buchanan, Cheryl Cornelius, Helen Dashnaw, Linda Free, Phyllis Free, Susan Fry, Sue Garret, Diane Gill, Betty Hamersly, Sue Harper, Kathleen Harris, Shirley Jones, Tunia McClure, Fran Neal, Jan Smith, Marguerite Tuggle, Nyla Wachter, Jan Wake, Jan Wininger, Mary Gotwald and Pat Rinehart.

The next meeting will be Nov. 14 at Washington Carnegie Public Library.

The members will be making center pieces for nursing homes.
