---- — VINCENNES - Vincennes University students majoring in accounting will be preparing tax returns for people in the Vincennes community and students at VU.
The students are under the direction of Lisa Nash, associate professor of accounting, and are certified by testing through the IRS. The service is free to the community as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service.
Tax preparation starts February 4 and ends March 6. The service will also be offered two Saturdays, Feb. 8 and 15. Individuals must make an appointment. For more information or an appointment call 812-888-5585.
The students prepare 1040EZ, 1040A, 1040 with schedules A, B, C-EZ, D, child and dependent care credit, and education credits. The returns are filed electronically with direct deposit available if desired.
“The service is good for the students and enables them to feel more comfortable dealing with clients, engaging in conversation, performing as a professional, and providing tax preparation for the public,” Nash said.
