German American donates $1,600 grant to DCCF

The Washington Times-Herald

---- — Employees of Washington’s German American Banking, Insurance, and Investments including Alex Knepp, a member of the Daviess County Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees, along with Mary Smith, Foundation Director, recently presented a $1,600 grant from the Daviess County Community Foundation’s Peoples National Bank donor-advised endowment fund to Jill Cecil, Executive Director of Senior and Family Services. The grant will provide for the purchase of computers and training by the Daviess County charitable organization that coordinates, develops and provides programs, services and activities promoting independence for all ages with emphasis on those aged 60 and over and the handicapped.

“On behalf of the Daviess County Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees, we thank the bank for their ongoing partnership with us,” said Smith. “We appreciate the trust they have placed in us for their charitable efforts.”

The Peoples National Bank Endowment Fund was established in 1998 by the Peoples National Bank, a part of the German American Bank Corporation, as a donor-advised fund with the Daviess County Community Foundation. The fund is set up so the bank acts as an advisor to the fund and recommends grants to charities they wish to support. “For the employees with German American in Washington, the fund with our community foundation has been a good way to stay involved with the foundation’s distributions of grants in our community and at the same time, honor the roots of the bank,” says Mary E. Smith, Director of the Daviess County Community Foundation. “Over the years, the fund has made at total of 10 grants possible, giving back $6,374 to various charitable organizations and purposes in Daviess County.” Smith says that in addition to this year’s grant, the fund has awarded grants to Friends for Kids and Bethel Mall as well as various food ministry programs including Feed My Sheep and Backpack Food for Kids.

Donor-advised funds like the Peoples National Bank fund may be established by businesses, organizations, groups, individuals, and families and are ideal for consolidating charitable giving efforts. For more information, contact the Daviess County Community Foundation at 254-9354.
