Area elementary students created drug-free posters that were entered into a competition hosted by the Davies County Prosecutors Office. Area man looked at in cold case
PETERSBURG — Pike County Sheriff deputies are working day and night excavating the home of Oakland City resident Kerry Thomas, 46, where they believe the remains of Patrick King will be uncovered, said Pike County Prosecutor Darrin McDonald at a press conference Friday afternoon. The search for the body of King, who has been missing since Nov. 1, 1995, has been ongoing off and on since 2006, McDonald said referring to multiple interviews that have taken place.

Waiting for a H1N1 shot
The line stretched down the block Thursday as Daviess County residents waited patiently to enter the Washington High School gym and receive the H2N2 vaccine. The Daviess County Health Department sponsored the clinic for a targeted group who are at the greatest risk to the flu virus that has claimed 19 lives in Indiana.

Police arrest stepfather in death of Rockport girl
ROCKPORT, Ind. (AP) — State police have arrested on a murder charge the stepfather of a 15-year-old southern Indiana girl whose body was found behind a shed near her home. Indiana State Police say 32-year-old Ryan Lee Shelby of Rockport was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder at around 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jasper State Police post. He was being held Wednesday at the Spencer County Jail. Police did not know whether he had a lawyer, but is scheduled to be arraigned in Spencer County today.

Barr-Reeve State Final Volleyball tickets are general admission, and on sale in the high school office today during school hours for $12. Tickets will not be available on Friday. These are season passes for both the morning and afternoon session at Muncie.

Blake Daviess County trial on hold
The trial of Vadney Blake in Daviess County set for today was cancelled late Tuesday afternoon. Central Christian to hold health care forum Thursday
Central Christian Church, 10 W. VanTrees St., will host a forum on health care reform at 7 p.m. Thursday. Dr. Rob Stone, an emergency physician at Bloomington Hospital, will present the program: “Healthcare for All: Fiscally Conservative — Socially Responsible.” The program proposes to give information and discussion about the present health care reform debate, reforming what Dr. Stone says is a “non-system of sickness care.” To read the full story, pick up today’s copy of the Washington Times-Herald.
