Amish woman seriously injured

MONTGOMERY — An Amish woman was seriously injured Tuesday evening in a farming accident.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Wilmer Raber farm, 3258N CR 650E, at 5:34 p.m. Raber was driving a team of horses planting a field across from his residence and had stopped work on the planter. His wife, Lovina Raber, 49, had brought Wilmer something to drink when one of the horses slipped out of its bridle. The horse started trying to get loose from the planter, causing the other horses to try to get loose. Wilmer Raber tried to calm the horses by pulling on the reins, while his wife grabbed on to the harness. The horses took off with the planter still attached knocking Lovina Raber to the ground and pulling the planter over her, causing severe lacerations to the right side of her head and to her lower right leg.

Montgomery and Cannelburg firefighters arrived on the scene and started medical treatment until Southwest Ambulance personnel arrived. Lovina Raber was transported to Daviess Community Hospital by Southwest Ambulance and then transported by Air Evac to the University of Louisville Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.
