Barr-Reeve High School will hold its 42nd commencement exercises at 2 p.m. May 24 in the high school gymnasium.
Forty-four graduates will march to the processional call of “Pomp and Circumstance” as played by the Barr-Reeve high school band under the direction of Stephanie O’Brian.
The audience will be led in the “Pledge of Allegiance” by Mallory Wagler, class treasurer, and Paige Miller, class secretary, followed by the band playing “God Bless the USA” and “The Star Spangled Banner.” Opening remarks will be given by Jack Sweet, class president, and Laura Wagler, class vice president. Special music selections will include, “You’ll Be In My Heart” performed by the band but spotlighting senior band members; vocal music titled “Time of Your Life” will be sung by the senior chorus members and “Never Alone” by the high school chorus under the direction of Joyce Hawkins.
The salutatory addresses will be given by Zachary Graber and Laura Wagler, and the valedictory address by Mallory Wagler.
The presentation of special awards will be made by high school Principal Travis Madison followed by the presentation of diplomas by Brian Harmon, superintendent, and school board members, Galen Graber, Joe Cummings and Scott Lottes. A Power Point presentation spotlighting the Class of 2008 will be presented by Mallory Wagler, Laura Wagler and Marianna Stoll will conclude the commencement ceremonies.
The Barr-Reeve Senior Class of 2008 has chosen the orange rose as the class flower. The class colors are orange, silver and black. The class will graduate under the motto — “In our hands we hold today; in our dreams we hold tomorrow; in our hearts we hold forever!” The class sponsors are Lisa Duncheon, Abby Cornelius and Mike DeCoursey.
Mallory Nichole Wagler
Wagler, the class valedictorian, is the daughter of Ezra and Lois Wagler of rural Montgomery. Wagler has been a member of the National Beta Club, B-R Beta Club, Art Club, Spanish Club, FCCLA, and served as treasurer of her senior class. She is listed as an All American Scholar, named Who’s Who Among High School Students, has received both the Principal’s Award and the Presidential Award for high academic standing.
Wagler participated in softball and cross country. She was the female recipient of the Barr-Reeve Academic Athlete All Sports Award. She was crowned Viking Basketball Homecoming Queen for 2008. Following graduation, she plans to attend University of South Indiana and pursue a degree in nursing. She has been named a Hoosier Scholar, received a USI Departmental Scholarship, a Daviess Community Hospital Scholarship, an Arvin-Canolty Ed. Assistance Scholarship, and a Barr-Reeve Scholarship Foundation Scholarship.
Laura Rose Wagler
Wagler, a class co-salutatorian, is the daughter of Marvin and Diane Wagler of rural Loogootee. She is listed as an All American Scholar and Who’s Who Among High School Students and has received both the Principal’s Award and the Presidential Award for high academic standing. Wagler has been a member of the National Beta Club, the B-R Beta Club, Spanish Club, FCCLA, and served as vice president of her senior class.
Wagler participated in softball and cross country.
Following graduation, Wagler plans to attend University of Evansville and pursue a degree in physical therapy. She is a recipient of a University of Evansville Departmental Scholarship, and a Barr-Reeve Scholarship Foundation Scholarship plus additional scholarship awards.

Graber, a class co-salutatorian, is the son of Mark and Laura Mae Graber of rural Montgomery. He is listed as an All American Scholar and Who’s Who Among High School Students, has received both the Principal’s Award and the Presidential Award for high academic standing. He has been a member of the National Beta Club, B-R Beta Club, Art Club and Spanish Club.
