Shoals Junior-Senior High School commencement will be at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The processional and national anthem will be followed by the welcome by Kayla Wininger, Student Council president, and the invocation by Amber Cook. Following a musical selection by the high school band, Kindra Wilcoxen and Devon Cornett will present “Life in a Southern Town.” Maryann Nicole Hume will then give the salutatorian speech followed by the valedictorian speech given by Jeannette Leanne Montgomery.

Kindra Wilcoxen will give a video presentation of the class of 2008 and David Springer, principal, will then present the class for presentation of diplomas by Tony Cundiff, school board president, and Dr. Anthony Nonte, superintendent.

Senior class President Irisa Summerton, will give a farewell address and Jeremiah Johnson, junior class president, and Derek Holt, junior class vice president, will present the class flower.

The class motto is “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” The class flower is the daisy and the class colors are red, black and silver.

Jeanette Leanne Montgomery

Jeanette Montgomery, valedictorian, is the 18-year-old daughter of Vaughn and Paulette Montgomery. She has three siblings, Denise, Darrell and Jennifer. She has been involved in Spanish Club, IMPACCT Club. S.A.D.D. Club, Beta Club, Book Club, Band, Spell Bowl, and has received the John Phillip Sousa Award. Her future plans are to go to Indiana University and become a registered nurse.

Maryann Nicole Hume

Maryann Hume, salutatorian, is the 18-year-old daughter of Michele Parker. She has three sisters, Heather, Amber and Alieson. She has been involved in softball, Pep Club, Spanish Club, S.A.D.D. Club, Beta Club, Film Club, Service Learning Club, chorus, Spell Bowl, Academic Team, WROX news crew and drama. She has received academic awards in algebra, geometry, geography, Spanish, English, career education, chemistry, pre-calculus and citizenship. Her future plans are to attend college and major in psychology.
