From Staff Reports

A man is recovering in an Evansville hospital after he was stabbed early Saturday in Washington.

City police received a call at 1:54 a.m. reporting a fight outside the Antique Tavern on Main Street. Before officers could respond another call came in from Brent England saying a man had been stabbed near Old National Bank Depot on S.E. Second St.

Officers found a badly injured man who had been stabbed in the back and stomach. Southwest Medical were at the scene by 2:06 a.m. and had the man to Daviess Community Hospital by 2:14 a.m. He was then taken to Deaconess hospital where he underwent surgery and was listed in serious condition late Sunday.

The victim’s name has not been released by police. They have also not released a description of the suspected perpetrator.

According to the police report the originating call was a fight between two white men and an African American.

The investigation is still under way and police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Trent McWilliams at the Washington Police Department, 254-4410.
