National show on local Amish farm

From Staff Reports

Several thousand horse enthusiasts are expected to descend on Odon this weekend for the 16th annual Horse Progress Days.

The event, hosted on the Marvin Raber farm, 9450E 800N, on Friday and Saturday, will show the latest in horse-drawn equipment, including tillers, planters, irrigation and farming techniques.

Demonstrations will take place in the fields to “demonstrate equipment designed to maximize production and profit from food crops grown on smaller acreages.” Seminars will also be held on various topics related to horsemanship and the horse industry.

Each evening, different breeds of horses will be presented. Friday, the breeds will be shown from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Also being held will be sales for horses, oxen and other farming animals and implements.

Hotels in the area are booked up for the event, but parking is available on the farm. Tickets are $8 a person, with free parking. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served.
