HALBERT TOWNSHIP —One man was killed and another seriously injured in an accident in Martin County Tuesday.

Shortly after 1 p.m., James Shawver, 20, Depauw, was driving a 1990 Buick Skylark on U.S. 150 near Panhandle Road. As he came around a curve, he was on the wrong side of the road and hit a 2004 GMC Sierra head-on.

Shawver was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive internal injuries. The other driver, Paul Arvin, 49, Loogootee, was lifelined to the University of Louisville Hospital with injuries to his head, right leg, left foot, one finger and possibly his hip.

Both vehicles were a total loss after the accident, and U.S. 150 was shut down for two hours following the crash.
