DENVER, Colo. — For a Democrat, this week’s Democrat National Convention in Denver could be considered a liberal paradise.
State Rep. Dave Crooks, D-Washington, said while in line from Invesco Field at Mile High Thursday that the convention was the “Super Bowl” for political junkies.
“It has been a great week,” Crooks said Thursday afternoon. “Last night was an amazing evening.”
That evening saw Sen. John Kerry, Sen. Evan Bayh and Sen. Joe Biden speak at the Pepsi Center. He felt the message the whole week was “impressive.”
Crooks, who has been to a few Democrat national conventions in the past, said he waited for 90 minutes at Mile High and was halfway through to the stadium by 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.
He is with several Indiana media figures who made the trek to Denver, Colo., to cover Sen. Barack Obama’s nomination. Crooks also has been staying with the Indiana delegation. During Wednesday’s roll-call for the nomination, Crooks said he was in the balcony above the Indiana delegation.
He said there was some discouragement in the state delegation after Biden, not Bayh, was selected to be Obama’s running mate. Bayh talked with the state delegation on Tuesday.
“Obviously, they were discouraged with the Bayh situation,” Crooks said. “But, they seemed to come around later in the week.”
Crooks said Thursday’s acceptance speech from Obama should be good and felt that the Democrat candidate should “hit it out of the park.”
“I think he’s going to do a good job of who he is and the hopes and aspirations of what he wants to do,” Crooks said. “I think people at home will get a better look at who he is after (Thursday).”
Crooks, who interviewed Bayh, said he will talk about the convention and the upcoming Republican National Convention Saturday on the Dave Crooks Show.
