Wednesday will commence a series of community listening sessions organized by the Daviess Community Foundation in an attempt to gain insight on the needs in the community.

“We’re hoping these meetings give us a realistic idea of what is needed in the community,” Foundation Director Jeanne Fields said.

The three meetings will take place at different times and in different locations throughout the county. The first meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the North Daviess High School cafeteria with desserts and beverages provided.

Thursday, the meeting will be at noon in the Montgomery Town Hall with a light lunch provided.

The final session will be at 7 a.m. Friday at the Conservation Club in Washington with a continental breakfast served.

Joe Wellman, owner of Leadership Consulting and retired president of Peoples Bank, will be facilitating the sessions, taking notes and gathering information then reporting to the Daviess Community Foundation board.

“We formed this idea when we were looking for a new strategic plan for the foundation,” Fields said. “Every year we give grants and scholarships, but we’re not sure the community sees us as anything other than a grantmaker.”

Individuals are encouraged to brainstorm areas they would like to see the community foundation’s involvement and voice ideas at a meeting. If individuals feel there should be more support for children’s programs or for the elderly, bring it up at a meeting, Fields said.

Part of the foundation’s role in the community is to be a convener. The board is hoping to get ideas from the county citizens in ways they’d like to see organizations in the community partner together.

Fields hopes that by the first of the year the foundation will be able to present an implementation plan to the community.

“I’m looking forward to learning from the community ways we can continue with our mission of improving the quality of life in Daviess County,” Fields said.
