MONTGOMERY — The Barr Reeve School Board ended its budget hearing meeting Wednesday night and then adopted the proposed capital projects budget and school bus replacement plan for 2010.

Superintendent Dr. Brian Harmon reported that the Qualified School Construction Bond Allocations for 2009 had been made, and the school did not receive any of the $2 million requested.

“They had $177 million at the state for this purpose,” Harmon said. “And they had $380 million worth of requests.”

The school requested funding for advancements and updates that included HVAV roofs, security cameras and new hypo-allergenic carpeting.

Harmon spoke with Melissa Ambre, the director of the Office of School Finance for the state Department of Education, and reported that the application was good and the project was legitiment. Ambre said the application would stay in place and be considered next year.

Music Boosters

It was announced the band and choir teachers, after an extensive search for leadership that came up empty, decided to dissolve the Barr-Reeve Music Boosters Club. The club asked the school board to accept the $1,711.74 in its account to go towards new signs recognizing the sports teams’ accomplishments for the east and west town entrances. The board agreed to the stipulation and accepted the monetary donation.

Handbook

The school handbook states that all certified employees are allowed to accumulate up to 90 days sick leave, with the exception of cooks. The board accepted Harmon’s recommendation that the exclusion of cooks be removed.

Personnel

Scott Gladish resigned as fifth grade girl’s basketball coach. The following were approved as basketball coaches and volunteers for girls basketball: varsity Mark Holt, varsity assistant Joe Rademacher, junior varsity-Cody Cummings, high school volunteer Tim Hawkins, eighth grade Nathan Walker, seventh grade Kevin Wood, junior high volunteer Steve Bullock, sixth grade Mark Graber, fifth grade Holly Kirk, and elementary volunteers Scott Gladish and Steve Bullock.

The following were the approved as boys basketball coaches and volunteers: varsity Bryan Hughes, varsity assistant Dean Scott, junior varsity Aaron Ash, ninth grade Craig Weisman, eighth grade Bret Graber, eighth grade volunteer Dave Kavanaugh, seventh grade Mike DeCoursey, seventh grade volunteer Kraig Knepp, sixth grade Dwayne Murphy, fifth grade Alex Knepp, and elementary volunteers Albert Kavanaugh and Tyson Wagler.
