In an effort to raise funds for their class trip, Barr-Reeve’s seniors are sponsoring a home tour in the Montgomery area. It will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The home of Jim and Jamie Miller, located on N. Circle Drive Road in Montgomery, will be part of the tour. Other homes on the tour are Shad and Jamie Truelove’s, Matt and Alison Hart’s, George and Liz Nolan’s, John and Maria Knepp’s and Chris and Karen Hoover’s.

The Miller home

When driving into the quiet subdivision to Jim and Jamie Miller’s home on N. Circle Drive Road, one is struck by the idyllic atmosphere. Nestled on two acres, complete with a pond, pool and mature trees, their home seems to be in the country instead of one of the most coveted subdivisions in Montgomery.

This is the fifth new house that the Millers have built. It features four bedrooms, an eat-in kitchen, dining room and large basement, complete with a state-of-the-art theatre. Throughout the home are unusual color choices and painting techniques that truly make this a special home to visit.

Upon entering through the contemporary leaded glass front door, one is greeted with an open and inviting foyer. On the right, one finds a large dining room flanked by white columns with unusual walls that encompass alternating stripes in warm colors of tan and beige. In the dining room is a table and hutch that has moved 10 times as the family has built and sold several homes in the area.

On the other side of the entrance, there is a small sitting room that is currently being used as an exercise area. Visitors will then continue walking into the living room, where there is a large shelf that runs the expanse of the room, flanked by two large windows.

Also, above the open staircase there is a set of built-in shelves. The custom shelving unit offers a great space for Jamie to display pictures of the couple’s three daughters and accent pieces.

To the right, there is a large kitchen with a generous bar and ample work area, which the family uses daily. The custom cabinetry consists of oak cabinets enhanced with an almond glaze which offers various storage solutions. Jim laid all the wood and tile floors throughout the home, though he did have some help and guidance from a good friend. Off the kitchen is a large upper deck with access to the lower yard. The view is serene and private, offering the family an in-the-country feel.

The master suite houses a full ensuite bath with corner garden tub and separate shower. Above the tub is a large glass block wall that allows both natural light and privacy.

Their daughters, Baleigh and Briona, have the perfect teenagers’ rooms. They are bright and cheerful, decorated in pink, orange, blue and green. The girls each painted their closets with similar vivid colors and stenciling. Each room has its own vanity, and they share a shower and toilet, where the same colors are combined for a seamless flow. The family jokes that the two rooms are actually connected with a “Jill and Jill” bathroom.

The basement is expansive and offers a custom-made table that the couple uses when playing cards with friends. There is also a kitchenette with beautiful cabinets that mimic the kitchen on the first level. Their oldest daughter, Brittany, has a large bedroom and bath downstairs decorated with warm colors.

Jim also created an entertainment room, which is enjoyed by all the members of the family. He painted the exposed brick and created a comfortable and efficient room, complete with surround sound and a custom-made 9-foot viewing screen. He used plywood and bright white paint to create the screen, and the surround sound speakers give it a genuine theater sound.

This house, full of color and style, reveals the personalities and the interests of the Millers: comfort, fun and family.
