The Washington Street Department will begin picking up leaves on Nov. 14 in Area 1, east of SR 57 and north of the railroad tracks.
Leaves should be raked to the street, not in the street or over water meters. Do not put limbs or trash in the leaves and try to keep them off of the sidewalks. Call the Street Department at 254-4564 with any questions.
Property taxes due Tuesday
The Daviess County Treasurer reminds taxpayers that the second installment of taxes is due by Tuesday, Nov. 13. Payments postmarked or made in person after Nov. 13 will automatically incur a penalty.
The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The courthouse will be closed on Tuesday, and Monday.
The office will be open Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon.
The treasurer’s website, www.daviesstax.net, now updates payments daily, and has information on tax amounts, assessments, and exemptions.
Credit card payments can also be made at this site or by calling 800-809-5849; such payments can also be made at the office. There is a 2.95 percent fee on all credit card transactions; the company gets the fee, the treasurer receives only the tax amount.

Linton Veteran’s Day service Monday
Anderson-Poindexter Funeral Home of Linton invites those who have served in the military or are still serving and their families to a Veteran’s Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Monday on the funeral home lawn on North Main Street. For more information, call 847-9614.

Barr-Reeve schools will have a Veteran’s Day program at 9 a.m. Monday in the high school gym. The public is invited.
Montgomery planners to meet
The Montgomery Area Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the town hall.
Daviess County LCC meets Monday
Daviess County LCC is meeting at noon Monday at the Security Center training room. Grant reports for 2012 and grant requests for 2013 are due. The Daviess County Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coalition and HEALTH Team will meet immediately afterward.
City Council meets Tuesday
The Washington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers, 200 Harned Ave. Items included on the agenda: annexation ordinance; ordinance clarifying employee health insurance; municipal events fund ordinance; waterworks refunding bonds ordinance.
The Board of Public Works and Safety will meet immediately following the Council meeting. Items included on the agenda: discussion/approval of claims and permits and bids received for fire apparatus; request by First Financial Bank to close alley behind bank for 90 days to build a tunnel for drive through; consideration of sale of land next to the north well field.
Immediately prior to the Council meeting, Terry Wininger will be sworn in as Building Commissioner.
