---- — JASPER — A Jasper businessman announced Thursday he will run for the 8th District Congressional seat as a Democrat.
Tom Spangler, owner of LUI PLUS, is the second to announce a challenge to current Congressman Larry Bucshon, R-Newburgh.
“I’m running because since 2012, Congress has only gotten more reckless and irresponsible and Congressman Bucshon is part of the problem,” Spangler said in a release. “I’m looking forward to talking to voters about how I plan to take my business experience to Washington to cut out of control Washington spending and help our small businesses create jobs for Hoosiers.”
Spangler moved to Indiana in 2002 and created LUI PLUS, a commercial furniture marketing and distribution company. Since the company’s formation, LUI has customers throughout the country and abroad, the release said.
The release also said Spangler has served his church as a deacon, director of the outreach program, Sunday school teacher, and youth program. He and his wife Penny have two children and six grandchildren.
Buchson will have a primary challenge in the May primary against Andrew McNeil. Spangler is the only Democrat to announce for the seat so far. In 2012, Dave Crooks, owner of DLC Media in Washington, was the Democratic nominee.
