Tornado relief team coming Jan. 11

The Washington Times-Herald

---- — In order to assist you with any unmet needs, the Daviess County Organizations Active in Disaster, asks that you register with the caseworker Sherry Davis at 317-503-3489 or United Way at 254-1038. If you moved from your home, we may not have current contact information for you.

On Jan. 11, there will be a team to talk with you at the Community Building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have not been contacted before that date, please make every effort to attend. If you were underinsured, if you had no insurance, or you were out of pocket, please let us know. This event will be the final public appeal to identify anyone who may still need assistance. We will also use door hangers and other appeals so we can open any cases remaining and let larger organizations know of our need assessment.

People and organizations have been generous in their response, but we must open a file and assess the information so we can help restore homeowners and renters as they were before the tornado.

Please call 317-503-3489 to set up an appointment.

When a disaster occurs there is a short term emergency period, followed by immediate assistance and registration and assessment of needs as we move into a long term recovery phase. Door to door, mail, phone and events are used to determine vulnerable populations and gaps between needs and resources.

Please understand the recovery will take months to complete. It all starts with a phone call.
