Three injured in accident

WASHINGTON — Three persons were injured Thursday afternoon when a driver ran a red light on the U.S. 50 Bypass south of Washington at SR 257.

Jeffrey Harrawood, 16, Montgomery, told officers he wasn’t paying attention and did not notice the light at U.S. 50 and SR 257 was red until he saw Kerstin Burks, 17, 2885 E CR 250S, Washington, driving a 2001 Mustang entering the intersection going south on SR 257, and by then Harrawood said it was too late to get stopped. Witnesses stated the same thing.

At 3:47 p.m., Harrawood was driving east on U.S. 50 in a 1996 Chevy Blazer registered to Dean Harrawood, Montgomery. He was not restrained in a seatbelt, and complained of pain to the elbow and lower arm area after the accident.

Burks’ airbag was deployed and she was seatbelted. She complained of pain to the head and was treated by emergency personnel. Kaitlyn Smith, 15, 4393 S. Horrall Road, a passenger in the Burks vehicle, was also treated by EMTs for contusions/bruises over her entire body after being trapped in the vehicle.

Clayton Johnson, 340E CR 150S; Kristen Powell, 1763S CR 125E, and Audry Rodgers, 2008 Troy Road, were also passengers in the Harrawood vehicle.

Kristie Smith, also of 4393 S. Horrall Road, and Brenda Santos, 1504 Cherry St., were also passengers in the Mustang.

Harrawood was cited with an infraction for the running the stop signal.

Daviess County Sheriff’s deputies worked the accident, alongside emergency personnel including several EMTs, first responders and firefighters.
