---- — Lovers of festival foods should make plans to attend the Odon Pumpkin Festival on Saturday.

Festival committee head and president of the Odon Business Association Beth Haseman said the event currently has 14 food vendors confirmed. “We will have everything. There are vendors for kabobs, chili, barbecue, noodles and more,” said Haseman, about the festival which will run from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Over 30 other vendors will be on hand as well.

“We have people selling jewelry, hair accessories, handmade quilts, there’s really something for everyone,” said Haseman.

Several contests will also be taking place throughout the day. At 3 p.m. participants can try their hand at the pumpkin rolling contest followed by the pumpkin pie eating contest at 4 p.m. and the pumpkin seed spitting contest at 4:30 p.m.

“All of the contests have prizes,” said Haseman.

Festival goers can also watch during the judging of best pumpkin recipe at 5 p.m., the golf cart decorating contest at 5:15 p.m. and the masquerade contest and sock hop at 5:30 p.m.

“We have seven divisions in the masquerade contest. It’s a really popular event as is the golf cart decorating contest,” said Haseman. “At 6:30 p.m. we will be weighing the pumpkin. The person who has guessed closest to its weight will win $50.”

For the little ones, there will be pony and train rides, an inflatable bounce house, a straw maze, and pumpkin decorating contests going on all afternoon.

“We also have a corn hole tournament taken place,” said Haseman.

Friends for Animals, a local animal support group, will be having a pet parade and pet costume contest as well.

“The event is free. We want to bring people downtown to see how wonderful our community and downtown area is,” said Haseman. “The feeling you get when you come to the festival and you sit by the fire pits and see everyone enjoying themselves is so cool,” said Haseman.

“Our event is growing every year. I’ve already had vendors call for next year that were not able to participate this year.”
