COUNTY REPORT

Saturday

1:34 p.m. - Laney Cornett, Greenwood, reported that while she and her boyfriend were at the Shoals boat-landing her 2007 black Dodge Charger was stolen. Cornett advised she had parked the vehicle at the boat-landing with the windows down and keys in the ignition and there was no one in the area at the time. Cornett then left the area where the vehicle was and walked on a path just south of the boat-ramp to take photos. While taking photos, Cornett said she saw a newer full-sized red pick-up pull slowly into the area next to her car. After the pick-up pulled away, Cornett noticed her car was gone but she had not actually noticed the vehicle leave the area.

Odon City officers and Loogootee Police began an extensive search of the area for both vehicles. Cornett advised she and her boyfriend had been at the casino in French Lick and nearly $1,500 in winnings were inside the car.

About an hour after the initial call, an unknown fisherman spotted the back end of a car in the water. The vehicle was identified as Cornett's and had entered the water less than 50 yards from where it was parked. The car was in gear and the keys were still in the ignition. A purse with about $800 along with Cornett's driver's license were recovered. No suspects have been determined and the vehicle was considered a total loss.
