SAFS activities for next week
Monday — Closed for Memorial Day
Tuesday — Golden Living Center bingo, 10 a.m.

Memorial Day service Monday
The Washington posts of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will be holding a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday in front of the Daviess County Courthouse. The public is invited.
City closed on Monday
All city offices and departments will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. There will be no trash pick-up and the city bus will not be in operation. The Recycling Center will also be closed. Residents with Monday as their regular trash pick-up day should have their trash ready for pick up by 7 a.m. Tuesday. Contact the Street Department at 254-4564 with any questions on trash pick-up.
Museum closed for Memorial Day
Daviess County Museum will be closed Saturday for the Memorial Day weekend holiday and will reopen Tuesday at noon. Usual museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. or by appointment. Groups welcome. Meeting room available. Volunteers needed. Call 444-9360 for information.
City Council meets Tuesday
Washington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers, 200 Harned Ave. Items included on the agenda: discussion on approval of tax abatement for property at 1842 E. Waller Dr.; total smoking ban; resolutions on filing a grant, sale of city utility poles, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; reading of ordinance.
The Board of Public Works and Safety will meet following the Council meeting. Items on the agenda: discussion/approval of claims and permits; request to close street on June 15; solicitation of bids for service trucks; review bids for vehicle financing.
Loogootee School Board to meet
Loogootee School Board will meet in executive session at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to receive information about prospective employees.
The open session will be at 7 p.m. Items included on the agenda: textbok adoption; Title I grant; student handbooks.
INDOT to close SR 58, 358
The Indiana Department of Transportation will be replacing two drainage pipes in northern Daviess County next week. The pipes are located at the intersection of SR 58 and SR 358, known as Skeeter’s Bend, just west of North Daviess High School.
INDOT maintenance crews will be closing SR 358 at the junction of SR 57 to the intersection of SR 58. They will also close SR 58 from SR 57 to Interstate 69.
Work will begin on Tuesday at approximately 7 a.m. local time. It is anticipated the roadway will re-open to traffic by 5 p.m. local time on Friday, weather permitting.
No through vehicle traffic will be allowed, however local residents will have access to the points of closure. All lanes of traffic will be closed at the intersection. The official detour will follow SR 57, SR 54, U.S. 231and I-69.
