---- — ELNORA — Members of the North Daviess School Board met Monday evening and approved the purchase of a new oven and dishwasher for the school corporation.
Superintendent Robert Bell said that the oven would be purchased for $16,117.85 from Wabash Food Service in Vincennes. The oven will replace a deep fryer at the elementary school. The deep fryer will be put up for sale. The dishwasher, which will be replacing a dishwashing unit over 40 years old at the high school, will be purchased from B and B Foods in Terre Haute for $21,939.10. Bell said the price included the cost of installation and removal of the old dishwasher.
In other news, junior high and high school principal Jed Jerrels said that enrollment was up in his building by 35 students as of count day on Friday bringing the enrollment up to 480 students. Enrollment at the elementary was 705 students.
The board also approved the hiring of Laurie D’Souza as a remediation paraprofessional for junior high and high school students in math and language arts. Savilla Jones, Anita Stuffle and Lori Bucheit were also approved as sponsors for the Just Say No Club at the elementary.
Four members of the North Daviess High School choir were selected to the 2014 Indiana All State Honors Choir. Anna Mayfield and Renee Rink have been named to the Honors Choir all four years. Ben Lacy and Megan Osmon were also selected. To be chosen for the choir, students went through a rigorous audition process and will be rehearsing for a performance at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne in January.
While ISTEP scores were embargoed until Wednesday, results from the End of Course Assessments were available. Over 90 percent of all students at the high school passed the test for Algebra I while 84 percent passed English and 59 percent passed the biology portion.
The next school board meeting will be Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
