---- — Members of the Washington School Board met Thursday evening and agreed to meet again next Thursday to take a look at the roof of Griffith Elementary that is need of repairs or replacement.

"We've got some serious leaks there that we've had for some time. We've (patched) the roof as much as we can," said assistant Superintendent Gary Puckett. Puckett presented school board members with an analysis of the roof conditions. He also said that the cost of replacing the black rubber roof had tripled in the last few years. "They won't know exactly how much it will cost until they get in there and start working," said Puckett.

The current roof on the 67,000-square-foot building was replaced in 1995 and 1996.

Superintendent Dan Roach discussed unpaid textbook fees with the board and what steps they would take to reclaim some of the money. Roach said that $5,400 in unpaid textbooks fees are owed for students who are no longer in the corporation. Some of the money was owed by students who qualified for free or reduced textbooks and lunches. "It's confusing as to who pays and who does not pay," said Roach.

In other news, the board approved a request from the Lena Dunn PTO for a Fall Festival on Oct. 12. The event will feature a hay ride for students and hotdogs, chips and drinks will be available for purchase. There will also be games, a dunk tank and a DJ booth.

Several personnel appointments and one request for leave was also approved.

Those appointments include: Terry Galloway (Griffith Elementary Secretary), Gwyn Morton (part-time high school cook), Mary Kendall (part-time high school cook) Tina Himsel (part-time North Elementary cook), Nicholas Grothouse (junior high Academic Bowl), Kevin Stallman (high school Math Dept. Chair), Chad Niehaus (Lena Dunn fifth and sixth grade boys basketball), Scott Neidigh (Veale fifth and sixth grade boys basketball), Jordan Ingram (Lena Dunn Remediation SSP/Title assistant), Ashley Roach (Lena Dunn cheer coach), Patty Allen (Lena Dunn Math and Spell Bowl), Janet Stuckey (Lena Dunn Math and Spell Bowl), Tom Lee (Lena Dunn Media Club), Scott Lemon (Lena Dunn Media Club), Amanda Salters (Lena Dunn Media Club), Cheryl Price (Wings Musical), Beth Kirsch (Lena Dunn Recharge/Just Say No), Mike White (Lena Dunn Recharge/Just Say No), Paige Rohrer (high school cheer coach), Karin Webb (fifth grade travel basketball), and Brittany Chestnut (sixth grade travel basketball)

Roach also mentioned to the board the Washington Carnegie Public Library One Book One Community program that would be using the high school for an author talk on Oct. 5. Roach said last year the library also used the facility for the One Book One Community program and many high school students as well as community members attended.
