LOOGOOTEE — The North Daviess school calendar for next school year was set at Monday evening’s school board meeting, and several appointments were made.
School begins for students Aug. 13, with teachers reporting for a half day on Aug. 12.
School is closed Sept. 2 for Labor Day and Oct. 15 marks the end of the first grading period. School will dismiss Oct. 18 for fall break, and Thanksgiving break is Nov. 27 through Nov. 29.
The first semester ends Dec. 30. Christmas vacation is Dec. 23 through Jan. 3. The second semester begins Jan. 6.
March 7 is the end of the third grading period. March 24 through March 28 is spring vacation, and school is dismissed for Good Friday Apr. 18.
The last student day will be May 22, 2014, and graduation is set for May 23.
Snow days built into the schedule by priority include: Feb. 17,May 9, April 21 and May 23.
The calendar includes 180 student days with teachers attending an extra half day.
Extracurricular activity appointments included: Chalee Swartzentruber, Mackenzie Clark and Dwain Joliff as volunteer assistant volleyball coaches for the spring; and Adam Carroll, assistant baseball coach.
Other business appointments were: Glenda O’Connor, corporation treasurer; Elizabeth Fitzgerald, corporation secretary and deputy treasurer, and board recording secretary; Grant Swartzentruber, corporation attorney; Robert Bell, Twin Rivers representative, special education co-op representative and special education authorization agreement; Marlene Swartzentruber, high school ECA treasurer; Annie Miller, elementary ECA treasurer; and Ronetta Bough, food service director.
The board also approved the certified retirement of Shelly Crooks effective Feb. 6. Crooks had served the corporation for 12 1/2 years.
A field trip to the National Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky., Feb. 13 was approved.
High School Principal Jed Jerrels reported that 55 percent of the high school body was registered for the dual credit course with Oakland City University in the spring semester. One hundred and fifty students were registered for the spring and were taking 1,828 credit hours.
Board members voted for present members Bud Woodruff to remain as president, Tom Nugent as vice-president and Rob Dove as secretary.
The board also voted to continue meeting on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m.
