---- — The Heartbeat of Washington will kick off its first Christmas Stroll today at 4 p.m. with events continuing until 2 p.m. Saturday.

“We have several events planned for the weekend,” said Amanda Morgan, owner of Knickers and Petticoats and a member of Heartbeat of Washington.

Friday’s events kick off with a live nativity scene and food vendors in the Jay Myers parking lot, carriage rides, and carolers walking the route from the gazebo to A Wonderful Life.

“We will also be having pictures with Santa here at Knickers and Petticoats Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:30,” said Morgan. “And the stores involved with the stroll will each have a letter drop box for kids to drop off letters for Santa. The letters will be printed in the Times Herald at a later time.”

Carriage rides, food vendors will continue Saturday as well as several contests. All the contests are free and prizes will be awarded.

Families can participate in the gingerbread decorating contest by dropping off their decorated house between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at Knickers and Petticoats. The library will also be having children’s reading time at 11 a.m. at the gazebo. The ugliest sweater contest will also be at the gazebo beginning at 1 p.m.

“We are also having an Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt,” said Morgan. “Participants must visit Knickers and Petticoats, Tyger Lynn’s Monroe Style’s, A Wonderful Life, The Giving Tree, Bambini’s, Dave’s Flooring, Taylor’ed Look, Touch of Heaven and Lemon Tree to be entered into a drawing for one children’s basket and one adult basket. These are really nice baskets with a lot of merchandise.”

Those wishing to do the scavenger hunt will have until 2 p.m. Saturday to visit all the businesses, many of which are having specials and offering extended hours during the stroll.

Morgan said in addition to her store hosting pictures with Santa Friday and the gingerbread contest Saturday, they will also have cotton candy available in the store. Bambini’s and the Lemon Tree will each be running specials, and Touch of Heaven is hosting a book signing with author Mary McSparin.

Dave’s Flooring, is celebrating its 10th anniversary Friday and Tyger Lynn’s Monroe Styles is offering specials on service booked in November and December as well as discounts on products.

Both the The Giving Tree and A Wonderful Life will be having sales as well as samples. The Giving Tree will be tasting Wind and Willow dips and soups while A Wonderful Life will be featuring their cheese balls. A Wonderful Life will also have a drawing for three gift certificates and The Giving Tree will be displaying holiday floral arrangements. The Taylor’ed Look will be doing sign ups today for mini facials on Saturday as well.
