One person airlifted after crash

WASHINGTON — On Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:15 p.m. a two-vehicle crash on SR 56 near the intersection of Old Petersburg Road left one person injured.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Robert Schnaus, 86, Jasper was pulling his silver 2004 Ford Explorer out of a driveway onto SR 56 near the intersection of Old Petersburg. Schnaus did not to see a red, 1998 Jeep being driven by Mark Davis, 51, Washington traveling west on SR 56. Schnaus pulled into the path of the Jeep and the two vehicles collided.

Schnaus and Davis were not injured however, Lisa Yates, 37, Washington, the passenger in Davis’ Jeep sustained several serious but non-life threatening injuries. She was taken by ambulance to the Otwell School where she was then airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Both vehicles were a total loss.

Schnaus has been cited for failure to yield the right of way.
