WASHINGTON — The Daviess County Unchained Gang will be hosting its 11th annual motorcycle show and swap meet Saturday at Eastside Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“This is a great, free event for anyone who wants to come out whether they enjoy bikes, or music or good food,” said Terry Padgett, one of the organizers for the event.
The event will feature a ride-in bike show. Sign in for the show will be from 10 a.m. until noon with the show running from noon until 2 p.m. Cost to enter is $10 per bike. Bikes will be divided up into 11 different classes; chopper, sport, rat, sportster, American custom, foreign custom, American cruiser, antique, touring, trike, and foreign cruiser. Awards for people’s choice and best of show will also be presented. All bikes must be ridden to the show. No scooters or mini choppers will be accepted.
Betrayed Savior, a Christian rock band from Vincennes will also take part at the event. The band will begin playing at noon. A swap meet will also be a part of the festivities and vendor spots are still available for $15 each.
The Unchained Gang was formed in 1975 by Carl Beadle of Dugger. The group started out primarily as a street ministry but Beadle started ministering at the Greene County jail and quickly realized the need for ministry in the jails and prisons. Beadle also reached out to members of the local Cloven Hoofs Motorcycle Club.
To apply for membership in the Unchained Gang, you must be a born-again Christian, ride a motorcycle 650 cc or above and be accountable to a church home or pastor. It takes one year to gain complete membership benefits. All members must also be drug and alcohol free.
The primary function of the Unchained ministry is to reach out to those who are in jail or prison and to go to biker rallies and preach the word of God using motorcycles.
The Unchained Gang has memberships in Ireland and in the United States.
There are seven chapters in Indiana and one in Galesburg, Ill.
