Developer to move forward with Fun Center

WASHINGTON — Developer Scott Dyer is set to move forward with the building of a family fun center after the Washington City Council approved the rezoning of the property located near Wal-Mart and behind the accompanying strip mall.

Dyer has a facility similar to what he plans to build here located in Bloomington.

Prices for Washington Waterworld, which plans to open after Memorial Day, were approved by the council. Single passes for the 2013 season will be $3 for ages 4 and over daily. Those under 4 will be admitted free of charge.

Books of passes will be replacing the family pass. A book of 20 daily passes will be $45 and a book of 50 daily passes will be $100.

A transfer of funds within the police department was also approved. The department used the funds to purchase 18 new radios.

In other police business, Rodney Helderman was sworn in as Washington's newest police officer. Helderman had previously served as a reserve officer for 18 months.

Also, David Dahl of Midwestern Engineers, updated council members on the progress of the water system improvements. The improvements will be made in three phases, the first which has already started. The updates will allow for fire protection for the newly annexed area near the I-69 interchange.

Washington Mayor Joe Wellman also signed a proclamation during the meeting declaring  April the Month of the Military Child. According to the proclamation, more than 21,000 children and youth in Indiana, including more than 80 in Daviess County have been affected by the deployment of at least one parent.

The proclamation was presented to Purdue Extension Services representative Cindy Barber.
