---- — City Council to meet

Washington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Council Chambers, 200 Harned Ave. Items included on the agenda: Redevelopment Commission to present required reporting regarding no excess assessed valuation in three TIF districts.

The Board of Public Works and Safety will meet immediately following the Council meeting. Included on the agenda: discussion/approval of claims, permits, salary/position change in electric department and Waterworld, quotes for financing new fire truck, contract for substation testing and engineering services for the electric department.

Solid Waste board to meet

The Daviess County Solid Waste District Board will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday in the Commissioners’ Room at the courthouse. Items on the agenda include the proposed 2014 budget.

Commissioners to meet

Daviess County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Monday in the Commissioners’ Room at the courthouse. Items included on the agenda: weights and measures start date and an Emergency Management Agency ordinance.

Cooling center open

Senior and Family Services, 211 E. Main St., is open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, as a cooling center.

Remember it is important to stay cool and get out of the heat. One can watch TV, play games, cards, or Wii while staying cool.

Special Ed Co-op meeting set

The Daviess Martin Special Education Co-op will conduct a consultation meeting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Daviess-Martin Special Education Co-op office, 9 W. Main St. Any parent of a student who is home schooled and qualifies for special education services is invited to attend. All administrators from any private school should also plan to attend. This includes students living in the Washington, North Daviess, Barr-Reeve and Loogootee school districts. Information will be given and discussed pertaining to special education services provided to home schooled and private school students by the Daviess-Martin Special Education Co-op according to Indiana Article 7.

INDOT to close SR 356

The Indiana Department of Transportation will be replacing a drainage pipe in Pike County. The pipe is located on SR 356 west of Otwell. INDOT maintenance crews will be closing SR 356 from SR 57 to SR 257. The pipe is located between CR 825E and CR 900E. Work will begin Monday, at about 7 a.m. It is anticipated the roadway will re-open to traffic by 5 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting. No through vehicle traffic will be allowed, however local residents will have access to the point of closure.

All lanes of traffic will be closed at the work location. The official detour will follow SR 56 to SR 257.
