---- — DCH to host tree lighting

Daviess Community Hospital and the DCH Auxiliary will be holding the First Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Open House on Dec. 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the hospital lobby. Refreshments will be served.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to take Christmas wish lists and are available for pictures, along with Christmas music being performed by area school choirs. The gift shop will be giving a free carnation to all guests.

IU alumni chapter to hold food drive

The Southwest Indiana Alumni Chapter of Indiana University will be having its annual food drive on Nov. 27 at the Barr-Reeve Vikings vs. Washington hatchets basketball game.

Bring your canned goods and non-perishables to the game. Monetary contributions will also be accepted.

This year it is very important to give and give generously because of our recent tornado victims and the upcoming holiday season. All proceeds will go to Feed My Sheep.

Survival Spanish class to be offered

A Survival Spanish class for teachers, business people, firemen, policemen, and anyone else who would like to attend is being organizes. It will be taught by ELL students so that the language/culture learned will be that of local Latinos. Cultural aspects as well as conversational Spanish and possibly some Burmese will be covered. Contact Paula Counsil at WHS at 254-3860, ext. 258, or by email The class will begin on Dec. 5 in Mrs. Hawthorne’s room (4101), the first classroom to the left upon entering the main gate 6. The first of two identical sessions on Dec. 5 will start at 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the second session will be from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The group will meet as often as participants want to meet so it could be from once a week to possibly once a month depending upon demand.

Legion Christmas party on Dec. 14

The annual American Legion Auxiliary children’s Christmas party will be held Dec. 14 at the American Legion. Santa will arrive at 2 p.m. Children and grandchildren ages 10 years and under of Legion members are invited to attend. Members must show paid membership dues card at the door. Children must be signed up before Dec. 6.
