---- — Hatchets fall to Jasper

JASPER — The Washington softball team lost 13-0 to Jasper Wednesday evening. The Hatchets get no rest with road games against Southridge Thursday night and Loogootee Friday night. Washington coach Bret Graber has cautioned his team to fight through the losses.

“We can’t get down on ourselves, we are playing really good teams right now,” Graber said. “We have to keep working on the little things that are going to get us better throughout the year.”

Lions take down Southridge

LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee softball team defeated Southridge Wednesday night 9-4 behind a big fourth inning. Both teams notched a run in the first inning and after a scoreless second inning, Southridge took the lead on a fielding error by Taylor Hayes. The Lions responded with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game out of reach. In the inning, the Lions had five hits and scored two runs on bases loaded walk’s and other on a throwing error by Southridge. Lauren Bowling had the big hit of the inning with a three-run triple.

Cougars beat Shoals

SHOALS — The North Daviess baseball team evened its record at 3-3 with a 13-0 win over Shoals Wednesday night. Josh Kemp picked up the win, before being relieved by Austin Buehler, who pitched the final two innings. Nate Gingerich was the only Cougar to have multiple hits and he added two RBIs.

B-R beats Springs Valley

FRENCH LICK — The Barr-Reeve baseball team defeated Springs Valley Tuesday night 16-4. The Vikings scored 16 runs on 15 hits. Trevor Yoder pitched the first four innings to pick up the victory and Connor Swartzentruber pitched the final three innings. Logan James had three hits, Adam Graber had two hits, including a home run and two RBIs. Jon McMullen had two hits and three RBIs and Seth Swartzentruber had two hits.

Lions fall to Dubois

LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee girls tennis team lost to Northeast Dubois 5-0 Wednesday afternoon. At No. 1 singles, Talia Terwiske defeated Emily Bateman 6-1, 7-5 and at No. 2 singles, Kendra Schroering beat Erin Nelson 6-1, 6-0. Stefanie Archer defeated Tara Pennington 6-3, 7-6 (2) at No. 3 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Jennifer Schepers-Andrea Smock defeated Ashley Lindauer-Eden Jenkins 6-3, 6-4. Hannah Wehr-Rachel Meyer defeated Ashley Jones-Emma Walter 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3.

“We got off to a poor start on almost all courts today,” said Loogootee coach Mike Tippery. “We made a good run at them in the middle of the match, but we just dug ourselves in too deep of a hole.”
