It has come to the attention of the city that a company has been soliciting its utility customers. The solicitation is for the customer to purchase an insurance policy to protect them from large plumbing bills for repair of broken water and sewer pipes.
“Without issuing an opinion on the validity or advisability of purchasing the insurance offered, we want the public to know that this solicitation is in no way connected to the city,” Mayor Joe Wellman stated. “It is our understanding that when a customer inquires about how the company got their name, they are told the City Utility Office provided customer names and addresses. Nothing is farther from the truth.”
The company making the solicitation is not affiliated with the city in any way. Wellman went on to say, “Neither the city nor its billing vendor sells or distributes names and addresses to unrelated third parties.” Customers are advised to make their own decision on the insurance solicitation.
