Wrestlers for relay

WASHINGTON — The Team Todd Relay for Life team will be joining with Tri-State Wrestling to bring an event to the Old Petersburg Gym on Saturday. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with bell time at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 and children under 4 are free. All proceeds from the event go to the Daviess County Relay for Life Team Todd.

Matches for event include Johnny Bangkok vs. Nathan Blase, “The Don” vs. Section 8, Bareback Jack vs. Eric Marks and many more. Also, at the event will be Devilish Dan Taylor, Danny Ice, Barry Baker, owner of Tri-State Wrestling, said the show will last about two and a half or three hours.

“These are pro wrestling shows. I have about 30 guys from Terre Haute, Vincennes, Evansville, and the surrounding area that work with me.”

Baker said most of the men who participate in the fundraising events have been wrestling three or four years. Tri-State Wrestling started seven years ago and is a non-profit whose goal is to help raise money for various causes in the tri-state area. None of the wrestlers get paid for their efforts.

“Everything we take in goes to the charity. This is the second or third Relay for Life event we’ve done. We try to work with everyone we can. We’ve put on shows for the Colin Petts Memorial Scholarship Fund each year and we did shows to raise money for Memphis Riker’s medical expenses,” said Baker.

The group also does shows each year at Lodge of the Wabash in Vincennes. Team Todd, is named in honor of Todd Catt who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2009.

“We do Relay in honor of my dad, Todd Catt. Dad fought pancreatic cancer for seven months. We’ve never done a wrestling event before to raise money for Relay for Life but my son, loves wrestling so we thought, well why not. He is really excited about going Saturday and has already told me he is going to sit in the front row,” said Shawna Wiscaver, event organizer for Team Todd.
