---- — A homegrown warehousing operation is doubling in size. Maysville Enterprises opened in 1998 with a 48,000-square-foot facility and now is looking to double that space. The company, owned by Joe Singleton and Kenny Swartzentruber, is working on a $1.5-million expansion.
“It will expand our operations to handle additional capacity for GPC and consolidate all of our operations in one place,” said Singleton.
Maysville Enterprises works with Grain Processing Corporation handling warehousing for maltodextrine. GPC plans to expand that production. “GPC is telling us to be prepared for more growth,” said Singleton.
Currently Maysville Enterprises has 11 full-time and one part-time employee. The expansion will add two more full-time workers and two more part-timers over the next 18 to 24 months.
The company is getting an assist from Daviess County. The County Council has approved a 10-year tax abatement on the expansion. “It’s another positive for the county,” said Councilman Mike Sprinkle. “Anytime that we can attract new or enhance existing business we should do what we can to help out.”
“These are local owners that have been there all of their lives,” added Council President Michael Myers. “It’s good to help them.”
The tax abatement will extend for 10 years, declining by 10 percent each year until finally all of the improvements go onto the property tax rolls.
This is the second abatement for the company. The first was issued in 1998 and expired in 2008. The company is one of several spin-offs that have developed since GPC opened. “It didn’t go as we originally anticipated,” said Singleton. “Now there’s been a lot of expansion and it’s continued to grow. Now we need to expand to meet that growth.”
The new facility will be built on the company’s current site along Maysville Road. Some of the preparation work is already underway. Excavation work is expected to begin as soon as all permits and approvals are received. Maysville Enterprises hopes to open the new warehouse by Februrary 1, 2014.
