Six arrested in meth bust

LOOGOOTEE — Four Washington and two Loogootee residents were arrested Thursday after the Loogootee Police Department conducted a search warrant on a Loogootee home.

Officers were on routine patrol when they smelled what was later determined as a methamphetamine lab. Danny Christenberry, 24, Edith N. Kavanaugh (Mandabach), 36, Nikki R. Mandabach, 36, and Matthew C. Ochs, 49, were taken into custody and are being held in the Martin County Jail.  Also arrested were Frederick A. O’Neal, 62, Loogootee, and Diona D. Hand, 41, Loogootee.

Kavanaugh, Mandabach, and Ochs were all charged with possession of methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, visiting a common nuisance, and possession of precursors.

Christenberry was also charged with possession of methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, visiting a common nuisance, and possession of precursors as well as false informing.

Hand faces preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent and possession of marijuana in addition to possession of methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of precursors.

  O’Neal faces counts of possession of a fireman by a serious violent felon as well as neglect of a dependent, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of precursors. 

“I want to take this opportunity to commend Capt. Jason Hennette and all of the local law enforcement agencies for all their hard work in the investigation and the arrests made,” said Loogootee Mayor Noel Harty.  “The City of Loogootee as a whole strives to promote drug awareness to residents of all ages about the effects of drug use. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved in this most unfortunate situation.”

The Loogootee Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Martin County Sheriff’s Department, Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and the Indiana State Police Lab Team.
