WASHINGTON — Members of the Washington High School DECA Chapter will be hosting a DECA Dodgeball Tournament on Tuesday in the Hatchet House beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The event will last at least 2 hours and help defray recent travel costs.

DECA students traveled last month to Anaheim, Calif., for the International Career Development Conference where many of the students competed and Connor Brashear and campaign manager Anna Schilling caucused with delegates for national office.

“We are doing this in order to help pay off the national campaign we just ran which we accumulated some debt from,” said Brashear, the newly elected Central vice president of DECA.

The campaign alone cost nearly $6,000 in addition to the expenses of the other students attending the conference.

“Because of this, much funding still needs to be raised and supporting our DECA chapter in this dodgeball tournament would help out immensely,” said Brashear.

The dodgeball games will use “old school” rubber dodgeballs unless the alternate foam balls are requested by both teams competing.  Official rules for the games, which are single elimination, will be available at the gym.

A “court monitor” referee will be present to officiate each game.

“During next-game wait time, there will be televisions and Xboxes set up in the hallways surrounding the gym with video games available to play either individually or against others,” said Brashear.

Cost for teams of five players each is $25.

Teams may register in advance or before 6 p.m. the day of the tournament.

There is a $2 fee for spectators. For more information, to purchase spectator tickets or to register a team, contact Brashear at 259-2376.
