MONTGOMERY — The Washington girls golf team placed second in a four team match Thursday afternoon at Country Oaks. The Hatchets finished with a score of 196, 10 shots back of winners, Vincennes Lincoln at 186. North Daviess placed third at 213 and Pike Central came in fourth at 242. Natalya Meinhart shot a 41 and was named co-medalist with Ellie McClune of Vincennes Lincoln. Haven Lunsford shot a 45, while Cheyenne Jones shot a 46 and Alayna Purcell finished with a 64.
Hatchets lose to Castle
NEWBURGH — The Washington girls soccer team lost its season opener at Castle 2-0. The Hatchets surrendered two first half goals, but couldn’t find rhythm offensively in the first half. In the second half, the intensity increased, but Washington wasn’t able to score.
Hatchets lose to North Knox
BICKNELL — The Washington volleyball team lost to North Knox Thursday evening in four sets (25-21, 22-25, 9-25, 15-25). Emily Sullender and Lauren Terry each scored two aces apiece. Megan Arnold had 10 kills. Araina Fiddler and Jordan Carr had 11 digs each. Carr led Washington with 19 assists and Arnold had three blocks.
Cardinals fall to Shoals
Shoals defeated the Washington Catholic volleyball team in three straight matches (25-22, 25-11, 25-20) Thursday evening at the Bird Cage. Washington Catholic was led by junior Sarah Wild with five service points, four aces, two digs, eight assists and one kill. Senior Mary Anne Wichman had two digs and five kills. Sophomore Kasey Ivy registered one service point, three digs, one block, one assist and four kills. Senior Rachel May had two digs, three blocks and four kills. Senior Maria Concellon had one service point, one ace and five digs. The Cardinals junior varsity fell in two straight sets (25-19, 25-24).
Vikings breeze past Sullivan
MONTGOMERY — The Barr-Reeve volleyball team defeated Sullivan in three straight sets (25-12, 25-6, 25-5) Thursday evening at Kavanaugh Kourt. Jenna Knepp led the Vikings with 27 assists, and Allison Hoover and Skylar Chestnut added two assists apiece. Molly Wallace led the Vikings in points with 16 and Hania Sisco had 10. Wallace also led Barr-Reeve with five aces. Tiara Kenney had 12 kills.
Cougars drop home opener
ELNORA — The North Daviess volleyball team (1-1, 0-1 SWIAC) lost its home opener Thursday night at the Cougar Den to Bloomfield in five sets (25-10, 17-25, 25-21, 16-25, 14-16). Chandra Bruner led the Cougars with five kills, six digs and nine aces. Taylor Jeffers had 13 kills, two blocks, 25 digs and two aces. Madison Reed registered five kills, 12 assists and six digs. Morgan Wadsworth added three kills, two blocks and 15 digs. Jessica Miller scored four kills, two blocks and four digs. Randi Pershing had 12 digs, while Alexis Reed had two kills, two blocks and two digs. Nicole Woodruff pitched in eight digs and Lenzi Brower had one kill, 19 assists, 13 digs and two aces.
Cougars defeat Owen Valley
SPENCER — The North Daviess boys tennis team defeated Owen Valley 5-0 Thursday afternoon. Braden Lawyer won at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-0, and Trevor Wikle won at No. 2 singles by a score of 7-6, 6-2 and Trent Bowman was victorious in a close match at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 1 doubles Tommy Newby-Brian Lawyer won in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. The team of Ethan Hawk-Tanner Gray won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Bradley Blevins went 1-1 in junior varsity matches.
Lions breeze past Northeast Dubois
LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee girls volleyball team (2-0) defeated Northeast Dubois in three straight sets (25-12, 25-12, 25-18) Thursday evening at Jack Butcher Arena. Christina Ziegler led the Lions with 18 kills, Michala Beasley had 16, Abby Ackerman added seven and Taylor Hayes had five. Demi Richardson led Loogootee with 41 assists. Lauren Bowling led the Lions with 10 digs, Abby Ackerman added eight and Kailye Robbins had six. Waylee Wagoner had 17 service points, Michala Beasley had 14 and Demi Richardson had 13.
Lions fall to Bloomfield
BLOOMFIELD — The Loogootee boys tennis team (0-2) lost to Bloomfield 4-1. The Lions lone victory came when Gabe Nolley won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Tylan Norris lost in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Jayce Wagoner also went down in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Jordan Berry-Wyatt Wade lost 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Landon Bell-Caleb Dant lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. The Bloomfield junior varsity won 2-1.
ND girls basketball fall league
ELNORA — All North Daviess Elementary girls in grades 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th are invited to participate in our 7th annual fall basketball league. The league sign up will be held Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 and Saturday August 31st from 9:00 to 10:00 in the high school library. The cost will be $10 for each girl participating in the league and each girl will receive a t-shirt. We will separate into two age divisions and play games each night.
