“I was proud of our offensive line as well. They have done some nice things up front and never given up.”
The Eastern Thunderbirds bring an 0-2 record into the game, with losses to Linton and North Knox, giving up an average of 41 points in each of the games. However, they have not defeated North Daviess in their last seven tries.
During their loss to North Knox, the T-Birds relied on the arm of Briar Martindale for 195 yards of offense, mostly to receiver Cody Hopkins, who hauled in 5 passes for 175 yards. Most of Eastern’s ground attack was led by Cole Postell who had 52 yards and Jeff Graham’s 45.
“Martindale is a run and throw guy,” said Helms. “He is very dangerous in the pocket and if he breaks out he can really hurt you. He reminds me a lot of the Cunningham kid who was at Linton around 2008.”
Although Eastern comes into the 0-2, Helms said they are a much better team than their record.
“They have lost to two very good teams, teams that will compete fore a sectional title. We know that is will be a very good team,” added Helms.
The Cougars will kick off at 7 p.m.
