U.S. 50 Yard Sale starts Friday

MONTGOMERY — Daviess County will be participating in the 13th annual “Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale” Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is the third year Daviess County has participated.

This year, the coast to coast yard sale will be held in conjunction with several other local events happening Saturday including Rail Fest downtown, the Fiber Arts Fair at the Conservation Club, the motorcycle show and swap meet at Eastside Park and Art in the Park held in the Plainville City Park.

“This event is totally free and will be on (National Highway) through town,” said Sara Hornback, coordinator of the event for Daviess County. Those wanting to participate can set up in the Angle Inn parking lot, the grassy area near the former Decker Donuts building and on the east end of the Yoder’s Automotive lot.

“You don’t have to set up in these locations to be a part of the yard sales,” said Hornback. “With so many events going on in the area Saturday, I’m hoping people will have yard sales all over town.”

Those wishing to participate can set their own hours and do not have to participate all three days.

Hornback is still looking for volunteers to help coordinate the event and local civic organizations, volunteer groups, and school groups are invited to participate.

Since it started in 2000, the goal of the U.S. 50 yard sale has been to promote tourism along U.S 50. For more information contact Hornback at

Art in the Park will be taking place in the Plainville Park beginning at 4 p.m. “Anyone can come join me in the park for an afternoon of art,” said Cory Brown, event coordinator. “All ages and skill levels are invited, just bring your own art supplies. Even if you don’t draw or paint, feel free to come out and watch.”

Other artists are encouraged to attend the event as well.  The event will be held rain or shine. For more information on the event, contact Brown on Facebook or look for the Art in the Park event.
